Daniel:1:3-5
³And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king’s seed, and of the princes;⁴ Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king’s palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.⁵And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king’s meat, and of the wine which he drank: so nourishing them three years, that at the end thereof they might stand before the king.
It seemed to be an ancient thing to go through a preparation period before you meet the king, Esther did as well as the Daniels .Today I believe before you go to meet a great man say a ‘President’ , you have to prepare , organise. Quite oftenly we do prepare when we anticipate a visitor, tiden up the mess such that they find you organized and ready for them. Unpreparedness causes one to panic and do things in a rash. When Queen Elizabeth was coming to Uganda, preparations were made, roads works were done such that she finds an appropriate place and people.
It is not just about meeting the king but about what you are determined to do to meet the king. What re you doing about the day you meet the king?
When John the Baptist preached repentance, it was to prepare hearts for the coming Messiah, when the disciples preached the same, it was to prepare hearts for Christ’s second coming. As a believer , it is great you opened your heart and let Him in, it is true He has made you a royal priesthood ( 1 Peter 2:9), perfectly blameless and endowed with all spiritual blessings ( Ephesians 1:3) but the question stands, these Hebrew boys were already of Royalty, they had no blemish, were well favoured, skillfull in all wisdom, cunning in knowledge, understanding science, were quallifed to stand but they had to go through a preparation period. It’s not like the ones with the best voices don’t need vocal training nor the best athletes shun training, rather to work on self and keep being that perfection, even Prophets have a Prophetic school. We need to go an extra mile and work on ourselves, grow more in knowledge, understanding, grace ..
1 Peter 3:18
But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever.
Paul calls us to be nourished continuously in grace and in the intimate knowledge of Jesus, having passion to know Jesus as we grow into His beautiful image, Apostle Paul also states; work out your salvation with fear and trembling; simply put in the work to continue to live in your new manifested life, behave like royalty, walk like a child of the light, work on your faith, yes it is already established but strengthen it in the word, by prayer…
Phillipians 2:12
Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
He further says to Timothy , study to show thyself approved
2 Timothy 2:15
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
It is said that learning is a great tool for life so then, greater is it to learn and grow in the word of God, for in it you will grow in every word of His knowledge, wisdom , understanding, every grace given. The word of God is the perfect recipe to the perfection of the graces/ gifts of God in us.
Query within self;
What is nourishing you as you wait, or prepare?
The word of God nourishes, it is the only good we need for spiritual nourishment, it revitalises enabling us to do what God wants us to do, strengthening every good thing in us, like the poor man who nourished his sheep that it was admired by the richer man ( 2 Samuel 12:2), stand in that place where you nourish yourself, take care of yourself, mind what you take in, royals don’t eat like pigs, they eat healthy, they discern, they know what seemingly looks good yet not good, …Align your life to the word, behave like royals, live a prepared life.
Like the five wise virgins, keep your light burning, for the king is at hand.
Prophetic Utterance:
I am endowed richly with all spiritual riches, nevertheless, I will work out my salvation with fear and trembling, growing daily in His word, showing myself a workman approved, living a prepared life in readyness for His coming, for I am to be kept blameless in Him who makes me blameless, a royalty of whom I am.
