Colossians 3:16 [AMP]
Let the word [spoken by] Christ (the Messiah) have its home [in your hearts and minds] and dwell in you in [all its] richness, as you teach and admonish and train one another in all insight and intelligence and wisdom [in spiritual things, and as you sing] psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, making melody to God with [His] grace in your hearts.
A Crutch is something that provides help and support and that you depend on, often too much. Many of us have crutches that we turn to in our lives for example alcohol to hide our depression, pornography to help with our sexual desire, and drugs to numb the pain or escape from our problem but the truth is these can only do that; numb the pain! They can never really take away the root cause of our troubles.
The only thing that we will need to support us is the word of God.
Matthew 11:28-30
²⁸Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. ²⁹Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. ³⁰For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
People will come into your life and you will hold on to them believing that they are your saviour. If you are stranded, they can bail you out with money, or release a certain pressure off you through talking to them.
However God is a jealous God, He will not sit back and watch you turn to someone/something for help. To save you, He will remove such things in your life for you to depend wholly on Him and once you do, you will ask yourself, “Why was I holding on so much for dear life when I have a Father who can do exceedingly, abundantly above?”
Job 3:25
²⁵For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me.
Job held onto his children until they were no more. That thing which I feared has come to me. It was after God tried Job and everything was stripped off of him and in his seeking for God that he realised that he needed the word of God more than he desired necessary food.
Job 23:10-12
¹⁰But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold. ¹¹My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined.¹²2Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.
After toiling the whole night and could not catch any fish, Simon was at his end until he held onto the word of God (nevertheless at your word I will let down my net) and had his miracle waiting for him after obeying the word.
Luke 5:5
⁵And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.
He gave every excuse as we all do, God I have tried all businesses and nothing has worked. I have been faithful at work but my efforts are not seen. I have kept myself and yet I see no partner. I have tried to be there for my family in the best way I know but I am not appreciated, nevertheless, at your word, I will try again.
Child of God let the word of God be the only thing you cling to regardless of the circumstances you see or experience at a given moment. You do not have to understand His ways simply obey Him.
2 Kings 19
The King of Assyria who was mighty and had conquered many kingdoms threatened Hezekiah. There was evidence of his great might but Hezekiah did not rely on his army. He knew of a God that was so much greater so when a letter was brought to Hezekiah from the King of Assyria, all he did was lay that bad report at the altar and let God have the final say. Indeed the word of the Lord came to him with a message of victory.
Prophetic utterance:
Your word is my anchor. My hope is in your word that is truth. All else fades away when I look to you. My rest is in the Lord. I continue to desire your word more than necessary food.
