Genesis 37:23-27
²³And it came to pass, when Joseph was come unto his brethren, that they stript Joseph out of his coat, his coat of many colours that was on him; ²⁴And they took him, and cast him into a pit: and the pit was empty, there was no water in it. ²⁵And they sat down to eat bread: and they lifted up their eyes and looked, and, behold, a company of Ishmeelites came from Gilead with their camels bearing spicery and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt. ²⁶And Judah said unto his brethren, What profit is it if we slay our brother, and conceal his blood? ²⁷Come, and let us sell him to the Ishmeelites, and let not our hand be upon him; for he is our brother and our flesh. And his brethren were content.
While Joseph is presented as near perfect, I believe there was a whole lot of pride knowing His Father loved Him. His brother’s decided to strip Him of all the glory he possessed in the famous coat of many colours and lowered Him in a pit that had not any water, traditionally these were to have water but even the land was barren, Joseph was put in uncharted territory worse than ordinary pain, then sold as a slave, ‘to be a slave was to loose all dignity before oneself ‘
Joseph’s brothers enjoyed the delicacies of life at his peril and these are his elder brothers,’Family’ A family of covenant, they possibly feared God, knew God, Spoke to God….
For greater selfishness, they earned money for a life they had condemned already.
‘Today many have close relations with their enemies and these many times are called relatives’
Genesis 37:18-20
¹⁸And when they saw him afar off, even before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slay him. ¹⁹And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer cometh. ²⁰Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into some pit, and we will say, Some evil beast hath devoured him: and we shall see what will become of his dreams.
Joseph on his Father’s assignment to check on his brother’s welfare must have been exciting, yet for Daddy’s Love given to him, instead of Hugs, attracted there’s a murder plot ochestrated against him and even mocking His dreams.
Have you had a sibling or relative competing against You, do you have friends that only copy You, do you have friends that compare themselves to You.
There’s another set that take from You always aslong as you seem to have but never giving anything themselves.(they will condemn you once you have nothing to give)-this kind become entitled as though you were born to give unto them.
Be sure Joseph’s brothers knew God just like those that speak Christianese around You.
Because these people are loved ones, there’s no escaping them unless you are bold enough to learn to say enough is enough and focus on Your personal growth and development without shinning your colour like the coat of Joseph. Embrace God fully, He is the only one that can remove You from such a Pit usually by simply guaranteeing unending success.
Let our lives testify of God alone, and it all shall be good success.
