Numbers18:20-21
²⁰And the LORD spake unto Aaron, Thou shalt have no inheritance in their land, neither shalt thou have any part among them: I am thy part and thine inheritance among the children of Israel.²¹And, behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tenth in Israel for an inheritance, for their service which they serve, even the service of the tabernacle of the congregation.
In Judges 17:7 we notice a levite leave and sojourn in Ephraim from Judah yet Levites were assigned places to stay and serve God. And they were given the best of the Lord’s portions. Howbeit, many settle for less.
When God is your inheritance, he becomes everything you need, your exceedingly great reward. He becomes the greatest access to your need, He makes what is lacking to be. He becomes everything because in Him is everything.
This is perfectly evidenced in Hannah when she was begging her husband Elkanah to give her a child and until she came to the point of it’s in You Lord is when she received her breakthrough, everything she ever wanted she got ( 1 Samuel 1:20).
Abraham too tasted more of God when he didn’t settle for less.
Genesis 13:2
²Now Abram was extremely rich in livestock and in silver and in gold.
When Ruth and Naomi returned to Judah from Moab, they received more of God, when Abraham left as commanded his homeland, an overflow came to Him.
Get to a place where God wants you to be and most assuredly there will be an overflow. It takes a step of obedience to move like Abraham to where God wants you to be, to stay where God wants you to stay, to serve where God wants you to serve , to conquer what God wants you to, to let go of what God wants you to, basically it all goes back to obedience. So clearly we tarry when we shun doing God’s will in settling for less.
When Adam and Eve shunned what God said to do, they settled for less, when the levite left his assigned service in pursuit of …., he settled by far for less, when Israel failed to eliminate the heathen [ Joshua 16:10 But they did not drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer, so the Canaanites live in the midst of Ephraim to this day, and they became forced laborers] , they also settled for less yet the promise stood awaiting for their obedience.
Genesis 15:18
¹⁸On the same day the Lord made a covenant (promise, pledge) with Abram, saying, To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river Euphrates…
Notice that when Abraham, fully obeyed the Lord’s command to go away from His relatives ( Genesis 12:1) and later separated from his relative Lot then God showed Him all that belonged to Him, much more than what they were striving for with Lot, an overflow that is exceedingly more than required or needed. The prophetic word that was given to Abraham in Genesis12:1-2 saying Go from your country And I will make you a great nation depended on an obeyed instruction and when he came to that point God re-affirms His word.
Genesis 13:14,17
¹⁴The Lord said to Abram after Lot had left him, Lift up now your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward;
(¹⁷Arise, walk through the land, the length of it and the breadth of it, for I will give it to you.)
We are not to settle for what seemingly looks like the garden of God,
Genesis 13:10
¹⁰And Lot looked and saw that everywhere the Jordan Valley was well watered. Before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, [it was all] like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, as you go to Zoar..
Scripture says that Lot looked and saw that the Jordan was well watered like the garden of the Lord, often times we settle for what seems to be like what God has designated for us ( the garden of the Lord), whilst it’s nothing compared to what God has in store for us. We notice that when Lot settled there, he was under siege by the king’s at war and lost all he had:
Genesis 14:12
“And they also took Lot, Abram’s brother’s son, who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods away with them.”
And we know that Sodom was also destroyed! What seemed to be like more was actually less. Many times we find ourselves in that position.
What is it that made Abraham dreaded even when he felt insecure? The Lord was His defence. (Genesis 12:17-20)
Prophetic Utterance:
I am a child of the convenant, a partaker of the promises of God, my assigned portion, an exceedingly great reward. I am positioned for wealth and abundance, victory and much more of who God is. Habitually will I walk before Him in His ordinances.
