Ephesians 2:10
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
The Greek word for “workmanship” is poiēma, the root of the word “poem.” It means “that which is made,” reminding us that we are God’s masterpiece, crafted with intention and artistry. God, the divine Artist, tells His story through His creation and we are His living expression, His poem in motion.
Among all He has made, nothing compares to the wonder of mankind.
Genesis 2:7 reminds us: He took dust and made something living. That breath of life gives us inherent value and purpose. We are not only formed by His hands but also designed to walk in the good works He prepared for us.
We are God’s workmanship in that He redeemed us. Even before the foundation of the world, God had planned our redemption culminating in the sacrifice of His Son. (Read Ephesians 1:4)
1 Peter 1:18–19 says:
We are redeemed with the precious blood of Christ. His workmanship was costly. We are not just created, we are bought, cherished, and restored.
We are God’s workmanship in that He sanctifies us and fits us for service. The Amplified Bible says we were “recreated in Christ, born anew.”
2 Corinthians 5:17 confirms:
If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
As new creations, we reflect Him openly and are empowered to do good works just like He did. We were made for righteousness and holiness, and God’s grace within us empowers us to live that way. These good works aren’t earned in our salvation walk; they’re the natural result of being saved and transformed by His grace.
Because we carry Christ’s nature, we’re able to do even greater works.
We are God’s workmanship, His very aura in the earth. Are we not living letters of Christ, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, carrying His message within us? (2 Corinthians 3:3)
We are the walking Word, read daily by those around us. Every action we take now becomes an expression of Him. Just as art reveals the heart of the artist, our lives reflect the One who formed us. For it is God who works in us, both to will and to act according to His good pleasure. (Philippians 2:13)
The phrase “walk in them” reminds us that good works are meant to be a way of life, not occasional acts. God empowers us to live out these works and takes joy in us, His creation. As Zephaniah 3:17 declares, He rejoices over us with gladness and sings over us with love.
We are God’s work of art, wholly the result of His creative, redemptive, and sanctifying work. We belong to Him. Behold, what manner of love the Father has bestowed upon us. What an honor it is to be designed by Him and for Him!!
Prophetic Utterance:
I am the very best of God. For He formed my inward parts; He knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will praise Him for the excellent wonder of my birth!
Wonderful are His works, and that I know very well. My whole life and existence glorifies God.
