John 18:6-8
⁶”As soon then as he had said unto them, I am He, they went backward, and fell to the ground.⁷Then asked He them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth. ⁸Jesus answered, I have told you that I am He: if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way:”
An incredible scene we have here, where Judas leads the soldiers and some guards of the high priests and Pharisees, with lanterns, torches, weapons to seek and catch Jesus, Jesus knowing all that was about to befall Him, went out to them and said, Whom are you seeking?
They went out seeking for Him with weapons, yet He was no threat, but the omnipotent. They went with torches yet He is the light and they came as a band of soldiers just to catch one man whose power thrust them down at the utter mention of His name ‘I AM’ He, the utterance of whom is ineffable(not utterable) too great and extreme, un describable, a name with a sound of sacredness and infinite power and radiance, the Alpha and Omega-Yaweh. Did they remain the same after that encounter, I bet it is a wonder?
Psalms 96:9
Worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness; tremble before him, all the earth.
What was that force that thrust them down? And who on earth knowing that they are being sought to be arrested would freely hand themselves in? When Jesus says I AM HE, He relates and identifies Himself as God using the very intriguing words that God described Himself to Moses when He sought to know who He was, He said: I AM THAT I AM.
Exodus 3:14
¹⁴And God said unto Moses, I Am That I Am: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I Am hath sent me unto you.
It is who He is, never caught unaware, always on guard, and above all He is in control and He won’t miss out on You, God is in charge, even when things don’t seem like they are working out, He is in control , He is aware, He knows the way.
When God sends Moses to deliver the Israelites from the tyranny of slavery, He says: I am has sent me to you !! The same deliverance God brings to His people out of Egypt is the same He brings again and again to His people. He evidently shows Himself to be the way out when there seems to be no way.
Exodus 3:6
Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.
He is beyond description, all encompassing and self sufficient, self existent, eternal in nature, one that can’t be changed, one who is in control, the absolute truth, ultimate reality, omnipresent, omniscience and omnipotent, the first and the last.
On many occasions Jesus refers to Himself as the I AM; I AM the bread of life, I AM the light of the world, I AM the vine in whom we find fruitfulness, I AM the resurrection and life, I AM the way the truth and life among others and evidently manifests the great I AM in all dimensions, in power and all wisdom. He is the creator God, the great I AM the Lord of all, I AM the Rose of Sharon.
John 8:57-58
⁵⁷The people said, “You aren’t even fifty years old. How can you say you have seen Abraham?” ⁵⁸Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth before Abraham was even born, I Am!”
He will be what He will be , when men seek for options, He is the option, when we seek for answers, He is the answer, when you look for solutions, He is the solution, He will be what He will be, an ever present help in time of need, a holy never changing God, He is eternally sufficient to do what He wills, and therein He did what He willed, to humbly give Himself up and redeem mankind to Himself, it was not that He wasn’t in charge. Everything happened according to His will fulfilling His plan. His presence is inevitably unavoidable, God rules in the affairs of the men, in as much as Pharaoh claimed sovereignty, God evidences that He is far above all affairs in channeling Pharaohs heart.
Like ADA Ehi sings;
“The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (I am).
Who makes dry bones to rise again? (I am).
Let there be light in the world again (I am)
Who gives the barren a song to sing (I am)
Who makes the dead to rise again (I am)
So I ask, Are You aware that the I AM has your affairs in His hands!
Prophetic Utterance:
You are Holy and eternal, forever You reign, all the glory and power and honor be unto You, the Lord my God Lord who prevails, self existent, ever present, all knowing.
In who I also have life’s sufficiency.
