Proverbs 3:5-7
⁵Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.⁶In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.⁷Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
No matter what we go through in life, our wisdom and understanding should be secondary to the word of God, God’s word should always take precedence and must remain final and supreme . This scripture best potrays David’s journey to the cave of adullam
David was chosen by God to replace saul, yet after Samuel anointing him, everyone went back to their lives like nothing had happened, he went back to tending the sheep, he wasn’t just out there with the sheep, he was there with God.
Shortly after David was anointed, God’s Spirit departed from Saul and an evil Spirit to afflict Saul, thus David is summoned to the palace to play the harp to sooth out Saul’s affliction because God was with David. In the process of time, because of David’s dependence on God, he attains a victory over Goliath and women began to sing his praises which instigated Saul against David hence birthing a persecution for David.
In the process of running from Saul, David’s great faith in God began to turn into fear and this fear caused him to lean on his human understanding and wisdom which led David into his first mistake of lying to the priest at nob to save his life.
1 Samuel 21:2
²And David said unto Ahimelech the priest, The king hath commanded me a business, and hath said unto me, Let no man know any thing of the business whereabout I send thee, and what I have commanded thee: and I have appointed my servants to such and such a place.
In the proceeding verses David goes ahead to ask Ahimelech for a sword, this was Goliath’s sword, which pointed Him back to the former victories, a victory with stones when he relied on God for His protection, a refocusing of His not leaning on his own understanding but unto God. When we Christians try to handle things with our own wisdom and understanding we end up making bad and even dumb decisions that seem good in our understanding.
Proverbs 14:14
¹⁴The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.
David proceeds to go to gath where he pretends to be a mad man in the presence of king Achish, this is a potrayal of the a reliance of self than God.
In the end we see 85 priests are killed by Saul and an invasion of Israel by the Philistines and the battle that ensued led to Saul and Jonathan David’s best friend being killed as a result of David leaning on his humanity.
Along this point David came to himself and realized what he had done and became repentant hence he left gath and escaped to the cave of adullam.
David found himself in a cave instead of on the throne of a king that he was anointed to sit on. The only option he had was to fall back into his relationship with God because human wisdom had taken him aback, no friends and family, no sheep, no army and weapons but only God.
In the cave of adullam, David let go of his own strength, ideas, human wisdom and completely abandoned himself to the will of God. He basically quit fighting and God took over, he came to the end of himself like the prodigal son and took the responsibility of his life from himself and handed it back to his father.
As Christians this is a place in our lives where we must quit trying to make Gods plans and promises materialise by our strength and wisdom and surrender and let God bring His plans in our lives to come to pass
Jeremiah 29:11
¹¹For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
We must come to a point of persuasion and realization that God has written the blue print of our lives in eternity and being a loving father, He wants the very best for us and so we must fully yield to God’s will in absolute trust and faith, Gods wisdom is beyond human limitations and Gods other name is “the sovereign one”.
Prophetic Utterance:
The Lord is my shepherd, i shall not want!
I fully yield my personal will to be engulfed in Gods will for my life.
I choose to trust the leading of God even when it doesn’t make sense to me
Halleluya
