1 John 2:24-25
²⁴Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father. ²⁵And this is the promise that He has promised us—eternal life.
The passion version states;
²⁴So you must be sure to keep the message burning in your hearts; that is, the message of life you heard from the beginning. If you do, you will always be living in close fellowship with the Son and with the Father. ²⁵And he himself has promised us the never-ending life of the ages to come!
Herein we notice the writer calls us to hold on to what we heard from the beginning, that which you heard from the beginning was the word of God, that which you received when you became saved for in the beginning was the word and the word was with God. We can hear his voice and grow intimately with Him through His word.
1 John 2:14
¹⁴I have written to you, fathers, Because you have known Him who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, Because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, And you have overcome the wicked one.
Fathers have known the father from the beginning. The key to your spiritual growth is the word of God. This is the very reason why fathers are only attached to knowing the father from the beginning. As you grow, it is only through internalizing the teachings of the Word that you can grow in fellowship and relationship with the Father and the Son and are thus able to become strong and conquer. The young men have overcome, are strong and the word of God abides in them.
We grow in knowledge. My people perish for lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6) therein we can conquer, be strong, and overcome.
1 John 2:12-13
¹²I write to you, little children, Because your sins are forgiven you for His name’s sake.¹³I write to you, fathers, Because you have known Him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, Because you have overcome the wicked one. I write to you, little children, Because you have known the Father.
The first use of little children is for an infant, one who is newly born again and needs to know that their sins are forgiven which is availed in the word. The second use is one of a half-grown, not mature Christian, a lad, the third stage is one of youth, not above forty, and the last is of the fathers. It is written that Jesus grew in wisdom and stature.
(Luke 2:52: “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.” )
To grow from one stage to another, it is only through knowledge from the word of God that your spiritual capacity is grown then you grow into the deeper realms of the spirit.
Prophetic Utterance:
Father Lord, I thank You for Your word is a lamp unto my feet, enlightening the eyes of my understanding, increasing my discernment, wisdom, and grace to overcome.
Halleluya
