Luke 8:22-26
Now it happened, on a certain day, that He got into a boat with His disciples. And He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side of the lake.” And they launched out. But as they sailed He fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water, and were in jeopardy.
Jesus had given the disciples a word, to cross over the lake (Genesaret) where we would later understand in verse 27 that He was on an assignment to deliver one man who would later become an evangelist.
Just like we all are on different assignments; running a business, ministry, career, etc.. with God’s assignment for us; winning souls for Him.
While on the journey, they encounter a storm, quite terrifying. Guess what! The one who gave them the word, is sleeping on a pillow. This saviour must know something they don’t know. Who sleeps in a raging storm on a boat? One with a different mindset.
The Bible says in;
Philippians 2:5
Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus…
Make up your mind to know that once you are following the word of God, nothing can stop you, you’ll complete the assignment.
Find Jesus in the storm and rest in him.
Storms happen to all men, they’re not unusual, even when Jesus is on the boat. The devil will make you think that the storm has been customised just for you. No, it is all common to man.
1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man;…..
It is quite surreal to read in scripture that a war broke out in heaven, in heaven where God seats on the throne. ( Revelation 12:7)
We later see Peter (who was among those shouting on the boat) sleeping in between 2 soldiers yet he was about to face trial the next day, that could possibly lead to his death (Acts 12:6) He took on his saviors’ mindset of resting in a storm.
Remember his colleague James had just been killed.
Back to Luke 8:22
And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water. And they ceased, and there was a calm.
The winds and the water didn’t wake Him up but the voices of his people did. What a mindful saviour! Find rest in the love of Jesus & in knowing that He never let you perish. Whereas at this point they didn’t know their authority, they called on their master.
The Master’s response to them is, “Where is your faith?” His question wasn’t about the wind and the storm. Rather, He was saying, “I told you we’re going to the other side, and if I said that, then we must arrive at the other side, irrespective of the storm; we don’t perish on the way!” He was saying, “You should have relied on my word.” Perhaps for some reason, you find yourself agitated and fearful about a situation, refuse to fear. Christ is your peace, and He lives in you. He is God’s Word in you. So when you need to calm any storm, you don’t have to try to “wake Him up,” like the disciples did; you speak His Word.
Prophetic Utterance:
I have peace in my spirit! I am fully rested in Christ. I’m at peace in every situation, for Christ is my peace. I respond to situations and circumstances from the standpoint of the Word of God. For I am confident that He who begun a good work in me, is faithful to carry it on to completion. Halleluya! And Amen.
